My Best Tips for Senior Portraits
1.Book Ahead
I recommend booking your senior portrait session at least one month before graduation to allow enough time for editing and ordering graduation announcements.
2.Bring more than one outfit
One dressy, one casual, as well as a cap and gown if possible. Can't decide? Bring options and I'll let you know what looks best on camera.
3.Iron your clothes
Make sure your clothes are free of wrinkles, especially your graduation gown.
4.Oh no no!
Avoid words or logos on clothing unless they're school related (like a team jersey or a college t-shirt). Absolutely NO TRANSITION LENSES and avoid skinny stripes (they photograph weird).
5.Clean up Your Face
Make sure your eyebrows and other facial hair is clean and well-groomed. Don't worry about acne. I'll take care of it.
6.Props allowed
I don't usually use props in my photography, but I make an exception for seniors. If you would like to bring an instrument, a car, sports equipment, a pet, etc that's fine! Please just let me know ahead of time so I can prepare.
7.Do it for Grandma, too.
I do my best to get shots that young people want (more editorial, model shots) as well as what Mom and Grandma want (looking at the camera smiling). Be open to both.
8.Bring a buddy.
Bring a parent or friend to be your cheerleader and sherpa to carry all of your belongings. If a parent comes along, I will definitely ask them to be get in a picture. Be prepared!
